BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL BOWENWORK PRACTITIONER
Certification is for those practitioners who intend to practice Bowenwork® professionally. The basic certification standard is uniform throughout most of the world with additional requirements in the USA and Australia.
As a Professional Bowenwork Practitioner, you'll receive the full support of Bowenwork Academy USA and Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia (BTAA), which refer prospective clients to practitioners in three ways:
-
Through online references and referral links listed on this website and on the international website, Bowenwork.com.
-
Through requests made of the Bowenwork Academy USA's regional office in Prescott, Arizona and the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia's head office in Australia.
-
By word of mouth from students and practitioners worldwide who read the professional journal, Bowen Hands, which they receive as part of their annual registration fee.
- The satisfactory completion of Modules 1 through 6, including 10 case studies and 50 hours of hands-on practice completed between classes.
-
The satisfactory completion of a two-day Module 7 class with an assessing instructor. This thorough practical assessment covers every procedure taught in the Modules 1-6.
-
Written proof of:
-
At least 100 hours study of anatomy and physiology *
-
Business experience or study (20 hours minimum) **
-
Ethics experience or study (4 hours minimum) ***
-

-
-
An annual fee of $75.
** 20 hours of business training can be fulfilled by attending the Bowtech-endorsed Bowen Business Success seminar plus a 4-hour Ethics course (focused on roles and boundaries as they relate to health-care or bodywork practitioners).
*** Students who start Module 1 after August 31, 2011 will be required to complete at least 4 hours of Ethics training as described above, or to submit proof of prior training. For practitioners starting Module 1 after August 31, 2011 this requirement is in addition to 20 hours of business training.
Continuing education
In order to maintain your certification, you are required to participate in a minimum of 32-hours of continuing education coursework every two-years. Visit our CE Requirements page to learn more.
To be considered an active certified Bowenwork practitioner, you must be up-to-date on your annual fee and continuing education hours. With these requirements met, you will continue to be listed on professional Bowenwork websites, and you will be eligible to enroll in either of the Specialized Procedures Classes (Modules 9 and 11).
About Our Annual Fee
A $75 registration fee at the beginning of the curriculum serves as an annual fee that covers the following:
- One year's subscription to the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia's quarterly publication, Bowen Hands.
- Admittance to the members' section of the international Bowenwork website.
- A monthly email newsletter that contains articles, testimonials and class lists.
- Access to live semi-monthly teleconferences hosted by our instructors.
- Our administrative costs.
After completing the requirements to become a professional practitioner, the fee also includes:
- Client referrals via public listings on our website and in Bowen Hands.
- Access to, and credit for, all Bowtech-endorsed continuing education classes.
We ask our professional practitioners to remain current in their yearly registration fee. Not only does it support the efforts of the BTAA to promote Tom Bowen's unique work, but it also supports you. Staying current in your registration means you will always have access to continuing education to expand your understanding and increase your skills.
While the vast majority of students complete Modules 1-7 within a year, occasionally some students will take longer than one year to complete the program. Such students must be current with the $75 registration fee at the time they take Module 7. Paying the $75 fee between Module 6 and Module 7 is optional; however, students who wish to continue to receive the quarterly Bowen Hands and have access to the members' section of the website will need to keep their registration fees current.
Cancellation Policy:
Instructors make every effort to promote their classes in order to achieve a minimum number of enrollments. However, there will be times when minimum enrollments are not met and the instructor will need to cancel a class. In those cases the instructor must cancel the class two weeks prior to the class start date and refund all deposits.
In addition, Bowenwork Academy USA recognizes the fact that students must sometimes cancel a class they have registered for after they have sent in a deposit.
The following policy sets the guidelines regarding instructor and student cancellations and the return of deposits:
-
If the class is cancelled due to an insufficient number of students, then registered students have the choice of having their deposits returned or applying their deposits toward the next class s/he takes with that instructor.
- In order to avoid extra expense in case the instructor cancels a class, we strongly recommend that students purchase changeable, or refundable, airline tickets.
-
If a student is sick, or for some reason not able to attend class, but notifies the instructor 48 hours prior to the class, then the student's deposit will be honored toward the next class s/he takes with that instructor.
-
A student who fails to give the required 48-hours notice forfeits the deposit.*
* Less than 48-hours notice may be acceptable in the following instances if documentation is supplied: admission to a hospital, emergency room visit, or death of an immediate family member.
Individuals with Disabilities:
Bowenwork Academy USA provides reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities. Our policy is available upon request.
Complaint Resolution Policy
Bowenwork Academy USA takes all complaints and concerns seriously and will perform a thorough investigation of all relevant facts of a complaint. See our Professional Standards page for more information about filing a complaint.
